So my Blender rigging tutorial is nearing its completion and will probably be split into multiple segments during editing. this week I was running through the weight painting procedure for my model, making sure everything worked correctly as well as setting up drivers to control the facial shape keys of the face rig.
The tutorial itself will not go into complete detail on facial shape keys, I will be going over some basic shape keys such as blinking, open/ close mouth, and some expressions, but the shape keys I'll be using may not be entirely applicable to the quadruped that a person watching it will be using so with that in mind there will be a heavy focus on creating the drivers to control the shape keys.
As my umbreon is the one I'll be using in the tutorial......
I may...may make umbreon available for download to assist in the tutorial. I'm not 100% on board with that idea.
Now on to some new stuff.
As promised I am working on a series of human characters, the picture above is one of my current projects I'm using as a bit of practice. The model itself will eventually evolve into a character but for now I'm focusing on the facial features for both cartoon and more realistic characters. I do have a few pokemon trainers in the works but modeling a human character has started a shift in my modeling.
After a few breaks and some time to think I've decided it's time to end one aspect of my modeling and that is the focus on pokemon models.
I started modeling because I had two animation ideas almost 3 years ago, one pokemon, the other not so much. I dropped modeling airplanes, very early on, and focused on the pokemon as a means to help improve and from what I've experienced I'd say i've done just that. With that in mind I think I must apply my knowledge of blender to more original projects; otherwise I'd be stuck in one place with my modeling and I need to move outside of one focus area and expand my modeling.
Please do not be disappointed with this news. I will still be working on pokemon models, also I still have to model umbreon's trainer as well as a contest scene for the two, and my take on pikachu. Besides those projects I will be doing more pokemon but I must also focus on originality, in addition when i launch my blender tutorial I will also consider doing more of those as well in an effort to help others who are themselves just getting started with blender.
Basically my thinking is this, if I only work on pokemon, then my modeling would only really be applicable to nintendo and lets face, the odds that that would happen are very, very slim. So I must start doing more original models and try to find a way to promote these models a bit more because my blog is a bust so far, mostly my fault as i've been inactive with it, and my renders are so far limited to deviantart.
I would like to thank everyone for the help and support over the past 3 years and I am very excited to see where this shift will take me.
